Pubs to Visit on the Didsbury Dozen

The Didsbury

The Didsbury Pub on Wilmslow Road is where the Didsbury Dozen begins and where you will consume your first drink. A magnificent building close to Fletcher Moss Gardens, the Didsbury Pub sits proudly on the curve of Wilmslow Road. Boasting a large bar area and a huge beer garden, The Didsbury offers a wide range of beers, wines, and spirits.

Also known for its good food, it is a great place to start this iconic South Manchester pub crawl. This pub is a great place to start your Didsbury Dozen and on a summer day, there is nothing better than sitting watching the world go by in the beer garden.

Ye Olde Cock Inn

Ye Olde Cock Inn

After your first drink in the Didsbury, you have not got far enough to go to the second stop on the Didsbury Dozen pub crawl. Ye Olde Cock Inn is situated only a few steps from the Didsbury. This Green King pub has yet another good range of beers and drinks, making it a worthy tour stop. There is a perfect beer garden and an added bonus of live sports showing on several TV screens.

The Famous Crown

After a five to ten-minute walk the pub crawl talked you in to Didsbury Village and on to pub number 3, The Famous Crown. After a spell of being shut this recently refurbished pub is where you can choose from a good selection of ales and drinks and some good food to line your stomach for the 9 more stops on the crawl. One thing that I like about The Famous Crown is the fact that it has a TV in the beer garden.

The Royal Oak

The Royal Oak

The Royal Oak is the fourth stop on the Didsbury Dozen pub crawl. A traditional boozer with a number of rooms has a large bar at the centre in the shape of a horseshoe. It has a good stock of beers and lagers and has a rustic feel. One thing to notice is the collection of old porcelain spirit vats that are on display. These unique historic objects were salvaged from a fire at the pub in the 1990’s.

Fletcher Moss

The fifth stop on the Didsbury Dozen is one of my favorites. Situated discreetly amidst the heart of Didsbury, The Fletcher Moss is a delightful find, nestled just 75 yards from the bustling main high street of Didsbury village and mere moments from the Metro tram station. It truly serves as an oasis for those with a discerning palate, offering a splendid selection of beers, wines, and refreshing lagers. The presence of a charming garden and patio only adds to its appeal, making it a must-visit pub

The Nelson

The Nelson

The Nelson is stop number 6 on the Didsbury Dozen. This cozy one-room dwelling exudes a traditional ambiance, both in its decor and it’s patrons, distinguishing itself from the other pubs in Didsbury Village. It’s a lively hub for sports enthusiasts, with ample TV screens broadcasting games and events. On select nights, a DJ takes the stage, spinning a mix of Folk and Motown tunes to entertain the crowd. The Nelson is an active member of the local darts league, adding to its community charm. For those who appreciate a good pint, the guest beer is frequently sourced from Moorhouses. Additionally, there is a designated smoking area located at the rear of the establishment.

The Dog and Partridge

The Dog and Partridge is stop number 7. This consistently popular pub boasts a selection of diverse real ales within a traditional, unadorned beer-house ambiance. However, the appearance underwent a significant transformation in September 2017, shifting from a shabby aesthetic to an elegant and chic interior – a departure from what patrons might expect from a conventional pub. The interior stretches deep into the building, with seating primarily on the right side. Towards the front, there’s a paneled snug where individuals can retreat from the liveliness of the main bar area. Evenings here typically draw a youthful crowd, while lunchtime and afternoons see a more varied mix of visitors. Notably, the pub consistently employs knowledgeable staff, a considerable asset, and offers a menu that includes delicious things like pizza, sandwiches, soup, a deli board, and a cheese board. A quiz night takes place every Sunday evening, and the establishment features continuous sports coverage on TV screens placed throughout. On Tuesdays, they host Cheese Night, which is complimentary

The Dockyard

The Dockyard

Stop number 8 brings you to the Dockyard.

Nestled in the heart of Didsbury Village, the Dockyard brings you an experience that includes an impressive array of beers, live broadcasts of major sporting events on our big screens, and opportunities for a game of pool or darts. Every Thursday there is an immensely popular SPEED quiz night. We take pride in our ever-evolving selection of craft beers on tap, ensuring a fresh experience every few weeks.

When the sun graces us with its presence, make your way to our ‘secret beer garden’ for a refreshing G&T in the warm summer glow. A warm welcome eagerly awaits your visit to The Dockyard Didsbury

The Head of Steam

The Head of Steam brings something different to the Didsbury Dozen. Stop number 9 with only two pubs to go, this place provides a great range of ale, craft beers, and cocktails. An extensive menu of street food awaits to cure your hunger after an afternoon of drinking and to prepare you for the next two stops.

The Station

Stop 10 on the Didsbury Dozen brings you to the Station.

Located in the northern part of Didsbury Village, the Station is a traditional neighborhood pub that has undergone a subtle transformation in recent years. Its layout comprises a narrow front bar that runs lengthwise and a rear room equipped with a dartboard, card table, and a television. Outside, you’ll find benches in the front and a small beer garden in the rear.

Adorning the walls are references to Ireland and Irish Gaelic sports teams, but there’s an authentic and unforced atmosphere to it all. The front bar often buzzes with lively conversations, providing a pleasant contrast to the bustling, youthful Friday nights that Didsbury sometimes witnesses. The Station Hotel remains an oasis, untouched by the lager and shot-fueled teenage revelry that occasionally characterizes the area.
